Registration open, coaches announced for boys’ Scoop Lacrosse at Shipley School

Shipley School is pleased to announce that David Stilley and Mark Duncan will serve as the coaches for the boys’ Scoop Lacrosse at The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr on the Main Campus Turf Athletic Complex.

6-8 year oldsScoop Lacrosse
Dave Stilley graduated from The Haverford School in 1992 as a multi sport star and HS All-American,setting records on both the football field and wrestling mat . Coach Stilley played defense at Duke University where he was a 1st team All-American and two-time captain on their nationally ranked squad. He played in the National Lacrosse League for the Philadelphia Wings (World Champs 1998 and 2001), theC olorado Mammoth (World Champions 2006), and the New York Titans. He also played in the Major Lacrosse League for the New Jersey Pride where he served as the team’s captain. Coach Stilley coached the Haverford School to a state championship as an assistant coach and currently coaches at The Shipley School, helping guide the Gators to their past 2 league titles.

4.5-6 year olds

Mark Duncan currently serves as the Athletic Director and Head Lacrosse Coach at The Shipley School. Coach Duncan played his high school ball at Ward Melville HS on the 1992 undefeated NY state champs squad that was also the top ranked team in the nation. Coach Duncan played college ball at Lehigh University where he was the Patriot League Player of the Year in 1998 and a D I NCAA pre-season All-American, NCAA Leading goal scorer in 1997, and 1st team All Patriot League in ’98 and ’97 at attack. He still remains Lehigh’s all-time leading scorer. After coaching Whittier College to a top 20 NCAA D III ranking in 1999 as the offensive coordinator, he moved on to The Shipley School and for the past 12 years has been the head coach amassing over 125 wins in his first 12 seasons as well as leading the Gators to their only 7 league championships in school history and current 35-0 record the past 5 years in league play.

Highlights for the program, 4 to 6 years olds
* For Beginners – new to the sport of lacrosse
* Taught on the plastic scoop sticks with a soft, rubber ball
* Directed and run by The Shipley School Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse Coach and Athletic Director, Mark Duncan
* Basic skills emphasized: cradling, scooping, catching, throwing and shooting
* Fun drills and game like situations introduced throughout instruction
* Volunteer parent coaches needed to assist groups (Please indicate “volunteer” on registration form)
* Sundays: Sept 8 – October 6 from 2 – 2:45 pm at Shipley School, 829 Montgomery Ave., Bryn Mawr

For 6 -to- 8 Year Olds
* For Advanced Beginners who have had some exposure to lacrosse
* Taught with full size sticks cut down to beginner length and pinky balls, no pads (Please bring your own stick)
* Directed and run by The Shipley School Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse Coach and Athletic Director, Mark Duncan
* Stick skill development emphasized through drills and games
* Volunteer parent coaches needed to assist groups (Please indicate “volunteer” on registration form)
* Sundays: Sept. 8 – Oct. 6 from 2 – 3 pm at Shipley School, 829 Montgomery Ave., Bryn Mawr
