From US Lacrosse
The field is set for the semifinals at the US Lacrosse U15 boys’ National Championships at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
The defending champion Long Island Express Barracudas (top seed) will face fifth-seeded Fellowship of Christian Athletes (champs in 2009, 2010) while second-seeded 3d Select National will play the third-seeded Duke’s Lacrosse Club HHH. Games are at 8 a.m. and the championship is at noon.
FCA got game-tying and game-winning goals from Forry Smith (Haverford School, PA) in its 8-6 quarterfinal win Saturday over the Long Island Express Turtles.
“I just take it as an opportunity every time I step on the field to prove myself,” said Smith to LaxMagazine. Smith, a 2016 Johns Hopkins commit and also a member of the Duke’s L.C., had three goals in the quarterfinals and one goal and two assists in the first playoff game. “I want to take every opportunity I can to get better.”
In the day’s last quarterfinal, Michael Drake had four goals and Matt Moore (Garnet Valley) had a goal and six assists to help the Dukes Triple H claim a 17-7 win over the Long Island Jesters. Midfielder Anthony Giuliani was a key for the Triple H at the face-off X.
The LI Express Barracudas earned an 8-4 win over the LI Express Piranhas. Matt Gavin led the Barracudas with two goals and an assist and Ryan Rogers also scored twice.
“This means a lot to me,” said Triple H defenseman Jordan Young to LaxMagazine. “This is nerve-wracking, but it’s fun. I’m a rising freshman, and this is a big thing for me. We just need to keep working.”
The Dukes’ semifinal opponent, 3d Select, defeated For the Love of the Game, 10-6 as Cole Boland tallied three goals and Alec Barnes and Sean O’Keefe each added two goals.
