Brandywine Majors 2016 goalkeeper Sydney Gagnon (Downingtown East) was selected as a Maverick All-Star at the Maverik Showtime Spotlight at Western Connecticut State University on June 24th-27th.
The recruiting event featured 200 of the nation’s top rising sophomores (class of 2016) and rising juniors (class of 2015). After two days of tournament style play, 44 girls were selected as Maverik All-Stars to face off in a championship game. Gagnon helped her Blue Team to a 20-8 victory.
“I’m very excited to be selected,” said Gagnon. “This is proof that my hard work is paying off. My club coach, ChristyAnn Morello (Brandywine Majors 2016) and my goalie coach, Mar Fratoni (UConn 2015, Downingtown East grad) will also be happy to see that their long hours are paying off. I couldn’t have done it without their help.”
Gagnon also was a Philly Showcase Fab 40 pick last Fall and a 2013 Nike Elite 120 Selection.
“Sydney is one of our team’s strongest athletes,” said Morello. “She has great reflexes and her focus and composure (for her age) continue to impress me.
“She is one of our best communicators in the defensive unit and we are fortunate to have a player like her in the goalie position. She makes the game exciting to watch and I am confident that she’ll be a name that sparks an interest in coaches sooner rather than later.”
