Longstreth girls’ recruit: Pottstown 2013 MF-ATT Shumaker commits to Gwynedd Mercy

Pottstown senior center-attack Kelsey Shumaker has made a commitment to play Division III lacrosse at Gwynedd Mercy College.

Major lacrosse honors: Junior Year 2012: 1st team All-PAC-10 Frontier Division Attack, 2nd team Pottstown Mercury All-Area lacrosse. Senior Year 2013: 1st team All-PAC-10 Frontier Division Attack, PAC-10 Citizen Athlete Award.

Academic honors, service projects: Pottstown Memorial Medical Center volunteer for the past 4 years, Student government, Operation Holiday held at Pottstown Mercury annually, Make a Difference Day

What will you major in/study? Nursing

Why did you choose Gwynedd Mercy? “I chose Gwynedd-Mercy because it is a great school at which to continue my lacrosse career. I also will get to play with my former high school teammate Danae’ Perryman. Gwynedd also offers a great program for my major.”

Looking back, how did your season go? “My High School team played hard and strong with the small group of girls. We finished with a 8-5 record in the Frontier Division. We also qualified for the PAC-10 final four.”

Additional Comments: “I just wanted to thank my family for all of the support they have given me over the past years. The support from them means a lot.

“I also want to thank my coaches at Pottstown, Coach Bachman: Thanks for pushing me to be the player I am today I just wish people would have the opportunity to learn what I did from him. Coach Porter: thanks for being that person that I can go to on and off the field with any problems that occur. Also thanks for teaching me to never give up when things don’t go your way. Coach Reed/Coach McPherson: Thank you for being our mom when were away from home.
