After a season of grinding, clawing and battling for PAC-10 supremacy, the seniors from the eight boys’; team squared off for one last game tonight in the inaugural Senior Bowl at Pottsgrove.

This time, it was in a friendly game with mixed teams to celebrate their respective careers.

Tyler Fuhrman (Boyertown) collected six goals and two assists and DJ Young (Spring-Ford) added two goals and three assists as Team Evolution took down Team Maverick, 16-12, in comeback fashion.

It was the type of game that offensive players love, but goalies hate. Austin Mutter and Nick Lolli faced a lot of shots, but they could be heard joking from the field.

Team Maverick held a two-goal lead for most of the game. Whenever Team Evolution chipped away, Team Maverick seemed to always have an answer, often coming off the stick of Spring-Fords’ Paul Major. Major (signed with Delaware) tallied five goals in the game.

“It was neat to play with some of the guys from other schools and against some of my teammates,” Major said. “It was fun playing with some of the guys that you have some of the most intense games against.”

In Major’s case, most of the trash talk came from his Spring-Ford teammates. Defender Kevin Honaman marked Major for most of the game and even added a goal.

“There was a little bit of trash talk with Kevin and all the poles but it was all in good fun,” Major said. “I always like messing around with DJ (Young) as well, so it was a good experience.”

Major enjoyed the fun atmosphere, but said both teams were playing to win. He’s already preparing for his next game.
“I guess I just have to go home and watch the game film from this one,” Major joked. “It’s a fun game, but in the back of my mind I hate losing.”

Team Evolution outscored Team Maverick, 13-7, in the second half. After a low-scoring first half, Team Evolution switched the game plan around to stage the comeback.

“In the second half we threw in some different stuff and we had more fun with each other,” Fuhrman said. “We figured it was the last time playing together, so we wanted to make it a good time.”

There was a light and friendly vibe on the field. Fuhrman admitted that although it was friendly game, the competitive juices were still flowing.

“We’re all athletes, we’re all competitors and we wanted to win of course,” Fuhrman said, “But the game was all in fun. It was fun to see everyone playing with each instead of against each other.”

Fuhrman scored four of his six goals in the second half. Pottsgrove’s Bryce Livers gave the home crowd reason to cheer, adding two goals.

At the end of the day, the two teams celebrated their careers, the PAC-10 and lacrosse.

“It was cool for us all to come together,” Fuhrman said. “We’ve all had our differences on the field and talking trash. We’re all friends here now. It’s cool to see us come together and celebrate the PAC-10.”

Casey Pettine scored two goals for Team Evolution. Will Snelling (OJR) scored two goals and an assist for Team Maverick.
