The Philly Fever 2017 Orange claimed the U15A championship Sunday at the Summer Slam Tournament in Pemberton, N.J.
The Fever defeated BBL Elite (N.J.), 8-4, to earn the crown as goaltender Parker Henderer capped off a standout weekend with some spectacular saves.
The Haverford-based Fever started pool play with a tight 7-6 win over the Twist, and followed it up with a 10-2 win over Pocono-based Blue Mountain. In its third game on Saturday the Fever tied the tough Westchester Predators from (N.Y.), 8-8.
On Sunday morning the Fever beat Team 302, 12-0, before moving into the playoffs. The Fever handled the Jags, 9-4 to set up the finals matchup with BBL Elite.
“I owe a lot to my defense, they were great and we just try to play like a team and not depend on any one player,” said Henderer, a rising freshman at Haverford School.
Another rising freshman at Haverford School, Connor Moosebrook added “We have great coaches that teach up to play the right way and it is really fun to play for this team.”
The team included: RJ Fink, Chris Hervada, Matt Boles, Evan Haas, Henry Berg, Teddy Fitzgerald, Matt Marino, Ryan Brown, John Nostrant, Luke McCallion, Connor Moosebrook, Ed Garno, Ryan Jacob, Etahn Masuccui, Michael O’Grady, Billy Coyle, Anthony Divario, Parker Henderer, Billy Holmes, Jake Martellucci, Chris Morrison, Luke O’Grady, Mac Updike, and Zach Kaut.
