Junior Bridget Chakey reached 100 career goals while collecting four goals, five assists, two groundballs and two draw controls Thursday, lifting Agnes Irwin to an 18-9 victory over visiting Shipley School in the first round of the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association Girls Lacrosse Tournament.
The win was the eighth in a row for the Owls (12-7, 6-5 in Inter-Ac League), who were only 2-16 last year. The streak is the longest for Agnes Irwin since 2001.
Freshman Hannah Keating had five goals and two assists as well as two draw controls and a ground ball. Eliza Moran added three goals, an assist, two groundballs and two caused turnovers. Kristin Burnetta scored three goals and Laura Pansini added two goals, two draw controls, an assist and a groundball.
On the defensive end, freshman Kate White recorded four draw controls, six groundballs, five caused turnovers and one interception. Freshman goalie Caroline Roncalli was strong in the cage with seven saves and two interceptions.
Agnes Irwin closes out its Inter-Ac League season today at Germantown Academy and will play Friends Schools League finalist Germantown Friends in the PAISSA quarterfinals on Monday.
