In a topsy-turvy contest, visiting Cape Henlopen earned a key 9-7 victory Friday night over Tower Hill in a season finale battle between two of the top-rated boys’ lacrosse teams in Delaware.

Todd Keen (four goals) and Matt Kane (three goals, two assists) scored in the fourth quarter as the Vikings (12-4) finished a comeback from a 5-0 first-quarter deficit.

“Tower Hill is a very good squad; it’s always a big deal when we get a win,” Keen said. “It makes it even better for the hard work that we did all year.

“The loss to Caesar Rodney (Tuesday) in overtime by a 10-9 score really hurt. It’s good to get the win.”

The Hillers (12-3) bolted to the 5-0 advantage on goal by Benjamin Watson, Sam Murphy, Ben Hinkley, William Mette, and Andrew Petit (three goals, one assist) before Cap’s Mike Hopkins and Keen scored.

In the second period, the Vikings’ Matthew Kane, Blake Mann and Keen (twice) scored to make it 6-5 at the half.

In the third quarter Kane made it 7-5 before Pettit tied it with two goals.

“Tower Hill got some quick goals on us and the kids and battled back,” said Jack Lingo, Cape Henlopen coach. “We found a way to fight back. A lot of teams might have felt sorry for themselves, but we found a way.”

Devon Shorey had 15 saves for Tower Hill.
