Boys’ lacrosse: Conestoga, Radnor win to stay atop Cenral League race

Jake Scott scored three goals and Matt Schleicher added a pair as host Conestoga toppled Garnet Valley, 8-5, today in a key Central League boys’ lacrosse game.

The win kept the Pioneers (9-7 overall) tied atop the league at 9-1 along with Radnor, a 9-4 winner over Penncrest.

The Pioneers scored six unanswered goals to take a 6-2 halftime lead. Scott made it 7-2 and long pole Tim Langerhans added icing with the eighth goal. Chris Brady and Alex Mezey also scored for the Pioneers.

Christian Jobs was a key at the face-off X for Conestoga, winning 13 of 17 draws.

Brock D’Annunzio led Garnet Valley with three goals and Mitch Rose made 11 saves. Brandon Dowd and Jonathan Vandenberg each scored once.

Radnor 9, Penncrest 4

Mike Cherry had three goals and and assist and Tom Hemcher added two goals and two assists as the Red Raiders (14-2, 9-1) kept pace with Conestoga in first place.

Connor Burns added two goals, Peter Donato had a goal and two assists and Jake Shapiro won 10 of 14 face-offs for Radnor. Brendan Manderack made 10 saves.

Drew Hanna led Penncrest (10-4, 6-4) with a goal and two assists and Sean Mingey had a goal and an assist.
