Men’s lacrosse: Ursinus tops Haverford for 1st time since 2004; Eastern cruises

Ursinus freshman attack Steve Mussoline (Allentown Central Catholic) scored four goals as the Bears (8-5, 2-5 Centennial) defeated Haverford (6-7, 3-4 Centennial) 10-8 on tonight in men’s lacrosse play.

The Bears, who defeated Haverford for the first time since 2004, withstood a Ford flurry in the final 6:43 of the game as Haverford erased a seven-goal deficit to get within one at 9-8.

However, Ursinus freshman attack Logan Panaccione scored his 26th goal of the season with one minute remaining in the fourth quarter to save the game.

Panaccione finished with two goals and two assists, while sophomore midfielder Jake Weber scored two and added an assist.

With the score tied at 2-all with 7:43 left in the second, Ursinus went on a seven-goal run where Mussoline scoring all four of his goals during the run.

Haverford was led by three goals and an assist from junior midfielder Henry Millson. Millson (three goals, one assist) scored two of his goals during Haverford’s comeback attempt in the fourth quarter.

Junior face off specialist Shawn Caven (Pennsbury) was the hero of the night, as he picked up 13 ground balls, going 14-for-21 on faceoffs.

Freshman goalkeeper Brian Neff made 11 saves as he improved to 8-5 on the year.

Christian Clay (Lawrenceville School) had two goals for the Fords.

Eastern 19, Arcadia 2

In their final regular season game, the Eagles scored ten times in the second period to pull away to a win over the visiting Knights. The Eagles had a 38-5 advantage in shots through the first two periods and led 15-1 at the half.

Eleven different Eastern players scored in the opening half. Zac Ivy had four goals for Eastern (13-2, 6-0).
