Tuesday’s boys’ HS highlights: Conestoga rallies past Springfield-D; EA, Malvern roll

Sophomore Matt Schleicher scored the game winner late in the fourth quarter to give host Conestoga an 8-7 come-from-behind win over Springfield-Delco in a Central League contest today.

Down 5-2 at half and 7-4 in the fourth Conestoga’s defense locked it down and the offense came alive and scored the game’s final four goals.

Pierre Atkinson and Jack Robbins each had two goals for the Pioneers (3-3, 3-3) and Jake Scott had a goal and two assists, while Christian Jobs won 10 of 18 face-offs.

Lucas Spence had three goals and two assists while Steve Halko scored two goals and Jeremy Cavanaugh made 10 saves for the Cougars.

Garnet Valley 11, Penncrest 9

Vail Urso had three goals and an assist and Zach Penfil won 14 of 18 face-offs as Jaguars won a battle of Central League unbeatens. Robert Raucci add two goals and an assist and Andrew Cahall scored twice while Mitch Rose made 11 saves for the Jags.

Will Manganiello led the Lions with four goals and Sean Mingey added three.

Ridley 12, Strath Haven 6

Matt Borchert had two goals and two assists and Mike Crowley and Kelton Heverly each had two goals and one assist as the Green Raiders claimed the Central League win.

Brian Sinex won 15 of 19 face-offs for Ridley.

Mitch Cross had two goals and an assist while Ted Bergman made 17 saves for the Panthers.

Lower Merion 13, Haverford High 6

Evan Wolf collected four goals and an assist and Chris Daly had three goals and one assist while Daniel Buckman had a goal and four assists to lead the Aces.

Malvern Prep 15, Springside Chestnut Hill Academy 3

Ryan Hilburn had three goals and an assist and Joe Carlini had a goal and four assists as the No.1 Friars (6-0) opened their Inter-Ac season with victory over the Blue Devils (7-1).

Episcopal Academy 9, Germantown Academy 2

The Churchmen (5-3) opened their Inter-Ac season with the victory as Ian Strain had two goals and an assist and Peter Gayhardt and Tyler Haab each had two goals. Matt Ernst was a standout at the face-off X, winning 15 of 16 draws.

La Salle 14, Archbishop Wood 8

Matt Rambo had four goals and an assist and Mitch Soufleris had three goals to lead the Explorers (4-2, 2-0) to the Catholic League win.

Chandler Grasela (one assist), John Berthcsi and Keith Becker each scored twice for Wood.

Bishop Shanahan 14, Downingtown East 10

Dylan Alderman had four goals and an assist and Alex Wagner contributed three goals and an assist to pace the Eagles to the Ches-Mont win.
Trey Lauletta had three goals and two assists and Brandyn O’Connel three goals and one assists for the Cougars.
