TOWSON, Md. – Freshman goalie Sean McKee made 13 saves while Ray Vandegift and Brandon White each scored two goals as Penn Charter Charter defeated nationally-ranked Landon School (MD), 6-5, tonight at the LacrossePlayground Spring Classis at Towson University.
McKee was named the Muscle Milk MVP for his performance.
The Quakers (1-3), who had lost to three elite Maryland foes (Loyola Blakefield, Boys’ Latin, McDonogh) with a very young team hurt by several key injuries, led nearly the entire way in toppling a Bears team that last year defeated Haverford School in the event and is ranked No. 11 by TopLaxRecruits and No. 15 by Inside Lacrosse.
“We have had a tough road starting off against Loyola, BL and McDonogh,” said PC coach Pat McDonough. “Landon is right in that class; they are one of the top teams in the country.
“It was nice to come out and play well tonight.
“You know our (Inter-Ac) league, with Malvern, Haverford, EA and GA, so if you can’t come down and compete with schools down here, then you can’t compete in our league either.”
Dean Roseman added a goal and an assist for Penn Charter while LSM Steve Gotlieb also scored and Charles Guinta won six face-offs.
McDonough also thanked LacrossePlayground officials, including JR Bordley of Landon, for running a great event.
