Joey Sankey (Penn Charter) had career highs for goals and points in a game as 12th-ranked North Carolina defeated Dartmouth 13-5 at Fetzer Field Monday afternoon. A crowd of 804 fans on a bitterly cold day watched the Tar Heels improve to 4-3 on the season, while Dartmouth fell to 2-3.
Next up for the Tar Heels is a match-up with top-ranked Maryland Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at Byrd Stadium in College Park, Md. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN3.
Sankey had a career high four goals to go along with three assists for a personal best seven points to power the UNC offense. He had scored three goals in a match on five previous occasions (versus Mercer, Lehigh, Duke and Maryland in 2012 and versus Air Force in 2013). His three assists were one short of his career high set nine days ago against Princeton. His seven points broke his previous career high of six (vs. Mercer and Duke last season and Princeton this year).
Ryan Kilpatrick (Salesianum) added four groundballs, two caused turnovers and an assist for the Tar Heels from his LSM spot.
Duke 19, Marist 11
Jordan Wolf (Lower Merion) had four goals and three assists and defenseman Billy Conners (Malvern Prep) had two caused turnovers and two groundballs while fellow defenseman Henry Lobb (Malvern Prep) added two groundballs for the Blue Devils (6-4).
Marist suffered its first loss (5-1) this year under coach Keegan Wilkinson (St. Joseph’s University).
