Third-ranked Notre Dame claimed a thrilling 10-9 overtime victory over host and No. 8 Penn State Sunday in what everyone is calling the most exciting game in years.

Notre Dame (2-0) won the game on a goal by Matt Kavanagh after Penn State’s Tom LaCrosse had tied the game with 0.6 seconds left in regulation. That goal came after Notre dame’s Liam O’Connor (Haverford School) had put his team ahead with his second goal of the fourth quarter off the face-off.

Penn State is 2-1, but figures to remain high in the polls and will retain its spot as the No. 1 team in the Philly Power 15 College Rankings to be released Wednesday night on Philly LAX Live.

Among Philly players for Notre Dame, O’Connor had the two goals, won 10 of 21 draws and grabbed seven groundballs; Westy Hopkins (La Salle, Lawrenceville School) had a goal and an assist and defensemen Tyler Andersen (Radnor, 3GB, 2CT) and Stephen O’Hara (St. Joseph’s Prep, 2CT, 2GB) each had standout days.

For Penn State, Jack Forster (La Salle) had three goals, an assist and four groundballs, goalie Austin Kaut (Springfield-Delco) made 10 saves and Shane Sturgis (Downingtown East) had an assist. James Chakey (Haverford School, defenseman) and Tommy O’Neill (St. Augustine Prep, midfield) also saw time.
