Women’s recruits: Shaughnessy (Great Valley) leads incoming class at William & Mary

William and Mary lacrosse head coach Brooke Ireland has announced that seven student-athletes will join the program for the 2012-13 academic year.

The talented incoming class includes six midfielders and a goalkeeper.

“We are excited to have this class join our Tribe Family this fall,” Ireland said. “This class brings a competitive spirit, and we are looking forward to the many contributions their talent will bring to the program over the next four years.”

The following is a brief look at the Tribe’s 2012-13 recruiting class:

Catherine Shaughnessy
Paoli, Pa. (Great Valley)

Great Valley High School
Four-year letterwinner as a midfielder and defender for head coach Joe Tornetta at Great Valley High School … Earned honorable mention All-America distinction as a senior … Also garnered first-team all-area and first-team Ches-Mont League honors in 2012 … Served as a team captain during her senior season … Two-time Academic All-American … Played on two undefeated Ches-Mont League championship teams and helped GVHS reach the 2011 Pennsylvania state semifinals … Was High Honorable mention as a senior … Won the team’s Doug Miles Award for academic and athletic excellence as well as the Team Spirit Award for dedication and positive attitude … Earned the GVHS Al Como Award for most outstanding female athlete … Also a four-year letter winner in swimming and a two-year letterwinner in field hockey … Four-year state qualifier and two-time All-American in swimming … Also garnered first-team all-area accolades twice … Set two individual school records and was part of three relay school records … Served as a captain during her senior season and was chosen as the team’s MVP … Earned distinguished honors every semester … Volunteered as the Yearbook Selection Editor … Studied in Switzerland for a semester as part of the “Swiss Semester” academic program … Member of Young Life …

Four-year letterwinner as a midfielder for head coach Sue Scheer at Roswell High School … Honored as a High School All-American in 2011 and 2012 … Also earned first-team all-state honors as a junior and a senior … Member of the Georgia National Team three times (2009-11) … Garnered High School Academic All-America honors in 2011 and 2012 … Served as a team captain at RHS during her junior and senior years … Finished her senior season with 100 points on 80 goals and 20 assists … Also recorded 118 draw controls, 42 ground balls and 46 caused turnovers … Member of the National Honor Society and was an AP Scholar …
