Three more Philly sophomore boys have given verbal commitments to play Division I lacrosse, raising the number of these ultra-early commitments to nine in the region.

In the past day, Malvern Prep’s Drew Schantz (midfielder, chose Notre Dame) and Charles Kelly (face-off specialist, North Carolina) and Episcopal Academy’s Colin Reder (goalie, North Carolina) have made their choices public.

That follows earlier commitments by Haverford School’s Grant Ament (attackman, Penn State), Drew Supinski (midfielder, Johns Hopkins) and Lane Odom (midfielder, Johns Hopkins) as well as La Salle’s Zach Drake (midfielder-attackman, Lehigh), Downingtown East’s Jake Peden (defenseman, North Carolina) and the first commit, Episcopal Academy’s Curtis Zappala (attackman, Maryland).

The trend for sophomores to commit was set this summer. According to Inside Lacrosse’s 2015 thread, 35 sophomores had made commitments before Kelly and Schantz went public today.

Eight of Philly’s sophomore commits play for the Duke’s Lacrosse Club; five also play for Mesa Fresh 2015 and one for NXT.
