The Philadelphia Wings are holding their inaugural youth camp on July 16-19 at the beautiful farms fields location of the Shipley School in Gladwyne, PA for boys ages 8-14.
This first-of-its-kind camp will incorporate skills that both field and box lacrosse players use to dominate their opponents while providing players with a fun and competitive camp experience. These skills are highly desirable in college lacrosse today.
“We feel that this camp will be one that young lacrosse players want to return to each year. It is cutting-edge and we have appointed two of our top Canadian players as camp instructors,” shares Michael French, president and co-owner of the Wings.
Several local youth lacrosse clubs had the opportunity to meet some of the Wings players when they visited clubs this past spring. Wings players ran practices and answered questions that the youth players had about being a professional athlete. “Our connection with the youth lacrosse community is growing stronger and we are happy to help any way we can with the growth of lacrosse players in the area,” says Dan Dawson, NLL veteran who was named to the NLL’s 2012 All Pro team for the seventh time in his career. Dawson, sponsored by Reebok, is one of those players who likes to give back and will be running camps this summer in both the states and Canada.
Wings Kevin Crowley is partnering with Dawson to run the camp. Crowley, named to the All-Rookie and All-Pro teams this year, was the top overall NLL pick last September from Stony Brook; and was the rookie leader with 36 goals and finished second with 71 points in 2012 season. He is currently playing for the Hamilton Nationals in the Major League Lacrosse (MLL), men’s professional field organization. Crowley was head coach for the middle school boys lacrosse team at the Shipley School this year.
Youth laxers will have a chance to not only work directly with the pros to develop their skills but will also enjoy a mix of competition and fun each day. Instruction will be provided for defensive & offensive players as well as goalie-specific training.
In addition to each camper receiving a Wings string back pack, pinnie and lanyard, there will be lacrosse prizes given away courtesy of Reebok. For information and to register for camp, visit: www.wingslacrossecamps.com
