Katie Samson week has arrived!
On Saturday, hopefully before fair skies, 14 girls’ games and 13 boys’ games will be held at the nation’s largest one-day high school lacrosse invitational, the 12th annual Katie Samson Lacrosse Festival at Radnor High.
As usual there are many great matchups as public school teams often meet with private schools they may not otherwise face. Some of the top games include Great Valley vs. Notre Dame, Harriton vs. Archbishop Carroll and the feature game, defending PA state champion and undefeated Garnet Valley vs. St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes, the perennial national power from Northern Virginia.
Come out and support the event, which raises money for research and development for spinal cord injuries, inspired by former Radnor great Katie Samson.
This week’s rankings:
1, Moorestown (9-0) – After disposing of arch-rival Shawnee, 16-8, the Quakers probably won’t face much competition until they host No. 4 Harriton on May 4. Prev: No. 1
2, Garnet Valley (11-0) – The Jaguars host Springfield-Delco Tuesday and will face a major test Saturday at Katie Samson when they meet Virginia power St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes. Prev: No. 2
3, Great Valley (10-0) – If you can get up early enough, you can catch Great Valley facing a major test Saturday (9 a.m.) at Katie Samson vs. Notre Dame. Prev: No. 3
4, Harriton (10-1) – The Rams had a great shot to beat Garnet Valley, but watch out for this young team that has only one Division I commit, but many standout players and athletes. They have a key game Thursday at Radnor and then return to Radnor High Saturday to meet Archbishop Carroll at Katie Samson. Prev: No. 4
5, Springfield-Delco (9-1) – The Cougars get their shot at first-place Garnet Valley Tuesday night in an away game at 7:30 p.m. Prev: No. 7
6, Shawnee (6-1) – The Renegades look to rebound after being handled by Moorestown, 16-8, when they play today at Clearview Regional. Prev: No. 6
7, Notre Dame Academy (8-0) – The Fighting Irish have a full week, to say the leat. They play at unbeaten Hatboro-Horsham today, play at Inter-Ac league arch-rival Episcopal Academy Tuesday and host Germantown Academy Friday before meeting No. 3 Great Valley Saturday morning at Katie Samson. Prev: No. 8
8, Radnor (7-3) – The Red Raiders had a tough loss (15-7) to Conestoga where nothing went right. They have no time to lament as they play Tuesday at Haverford High, travel to No. 4 Harriton on Thursday and then meet Episcopal Academy at Katie Samson. Prev: No. 5
9, Upper Dublin (8-1) – The Cardinals face an interesting test Saturday when they play defending Friends Schools League champion Friends’ Central at Katie Samson. Prev: No. 9
10, Hatboro-Horsham (10-0) – The Hatters host Notre Dame today in a major test outside of the Suburban One League. Prev: No. 10
Honorable mention: Archbishop Carroll (7-5), Boyertown (8-4), Conestoga (5-3), Council Rock North (8-2), Episcopal Academy (6-4), Haverford High (9-2), Henderson (11-0), Merion Mercy (9-1), Mount St. Joseph (9-2).
