From Press Release
The Philly Charity Showdown will feature a monumental lineup of elite high school and club teams in action at an amazing venue. The Friday evening Philly Charity Showdown has become a Philly Showcase weekend tradition, and this year NXTsports will again raise money to benefit HelpHOPELive in honor of Logan Schweiter.
This year’s Philly Charity Showdown will feature a tremendous lineup of club and high school lacrosse matchups, pitting some of Philadelphia’s finest high school and club programs against elite counterparts from across North America. Last year coaches from 150 NCAA lacrosse programs attended the Philly Showcase, and over 80 arrived in time to attend the 2011 Friday evening Charity Showdown.
The start times and order of the games of the Philly Charity Showdown are still being finalized, but the lineup will consist of the following club and high school matchups:
• HEADstrong (PA) vs. Leading Edge (NJ)
• Mesa Fresh (PA) vs. Laxachusetts (MA)
• NXT L.C. (PA) vs. Titanium (OH)
High School Matchups
• Haverford School (PA) vs. Hill Academy (Ontario, Canada)
• Episcopal Academy (PA) vs. Conestoga (PA)
Said Andy Hayes, President of NXTsports, “The Philly Showcase has become the biggest showcase event in the country, and one of the biggest events on the annual lacrosse calendar. We want the Friday night Philly Charity Showdown to reflect the status of the overall event, so we decided to move Friday night to PPL Park.
“PPL is a tremendous venue for lacrosse and playing there is an exciting opportunity for all the participating athletes. We look forward to putting on a great show and raising a lot of money for HelpHOPELive. Additionally we are extremely grateful to the Philadelphia Union and the management of PPL Park for their assistance in making this event a reality.”
Nick Sakiewicz, the CEO and Operating Partner of Philadelphia Union, stated “The Philadelphia Union and PPL Park are pleased to host the Philly Charity Showdown. PPL Park will provide a great showcase for high school lacrosse players to demonstrate their skills. We look forward to hosting the Philly Charity Showdown for many years to come at PPL Park and wish the best of luck to all of the terrific high school athletes in action.”

HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF) is a nonprofit that empowers individuals and families to overcome financial barriers related to catastrophic injury through grass-roots fundraising. HelpHOPELive provides the guidance, resources and support needed to raise funds to bridge the gap between what health insurance will pay and what is actually needed to heal, live and thrive.
Additional Ways to Assist Logan Schweiter and the Schweiter Family
For the second consecutive year the Philly Charity Showdown will raise money for HelpHOPELive in honor of Logan Schweiter. Logan, a student at St. Katherine’s of Siena School in Wayne and an enthusiastic rising lacrosse player in the Conestoga Youth Lacrosse (CYLAX) program, nearly drowned when trapped before being rescued from floodwaters near his Wayne, PA home in July 2011. Logan is fighting to recover from severe brain damage suffered as a result of the tragic incident. HelpHOPELive has been instrumental in supporting Logan and the Schweiter family, as well other families who have suffered catastrophic injury.
