Navy women’s lacrosse coach Cindy Timchal (Haverford High, West Chester Univ.) recently claimed a monumental milestone by winning her 400th career game as a head coach after a victory March 6 over Robert Morris.
With the win, Timchal became the first college lacrosse coach, men’s or women’s on any level, to reach the 400 plateau.
To honor Timchal, the Mids presented their coach with a special surprise. With an idea hatched by senior captain Kierstin King, the Mids bought Timchal a pair of the custom Nike Lunarfly+ 1.5 iD Running Shoes with the school’s Navy Blue and Gold.
The shoes had the words “400” and “WINS” inscribed on the left and right tongues. The players presented the shoes to Timchal, along with flowers, after the 400th victory.
One of Timchal’s passions is running, and she even collects shoes. Timchal joked in her postgame press conference that they players bought the running shoes so she’d ease up on her demanding running schedule and maybe go run by herself.
The Mids improved to 6-1 after that win (they are now 10-1), and Timchal improved to 400-106. Her past 64 wins have come at Navy since taking the program to Division I in 2008. She also won 260 games, eight national championships and two national Coach of the Year awards in 16 years at Maryland.
