Men’s recruits: Tower Hill’s Lieberman heads list of 19 newcomers for Vermont

University of Vermont will add 19 student-athletes to the program this season. Head coach Ryan Curtis made the announcement today.

Freshman Stone Lieberman comes to Vermont from Landenberg, Pa. and Tower Hill (DE) High School. Named first team all-state in 2011 and second team all-state in 2012. Helped lead Tower Hill to a state championship in 2010. Also played football and was a member of the wrestling team in high school.

Junior Matthew Bak transfers to Vermont after spending his first two seasons at Hobart College. He appeared in one game as a sophomore in goal. Attended Brewster Academy where he served as a team captain and was named First Team All-Northern New England. Also went to Marshfield High School in Marshfield, Mass. where he was a three-time league all-start and two-time Eastern Massachusetts All-Star.

Freshman James Barlow transfers to Vermont after spending last season at Towson. Attended Kingswood-Oxford before Towson, where he was named the New England Prep School Offensive Player of the Year for the Fairchester League in 2011 after scoring 119 points. That same year he was also named an All-American. Set the Kingswood-Oxford career scoring record with 420 points, after leading the team in scoring in each of his four seasons. Also played soccer in high school.

Freshman Nick Bartlett comes to Vermont from New Canaan, Conn. and Brunswick High School. Was named team MVP his senior season after scoring 41 goals to go with 18 assists. Named New England West First Team All-League as a senior. Also played soccer in high school.

Senior Nate Billings transfers to Vermont from Bentley, where he spent his first two years of college and will have to sit out the 2013 season. Played in one game for Bentley during the 2011 season. Prior to that he attended Brewster Academy where he was named First Team Northern New England twice and the Northern New England Academic Player of the Year in 2009. Was also a team captain in 2009.

Freshman Bryan Capone comes to Vermont from Liverpool, N.Y. and Liverpool High School. As a senior he was named First Team All-CNY and first team all-league, as a captain of the Section III Champions. He was also a first team all-league selection as a junior. Pulled in 220 career ground balls. Also played football in high school.

Freshman Patrick Clark comes to Vermont from Centreville, Md. and Queen Anne’s County High School. Was a team captain during his junior and senior seasons. Helped lead Queen Anne’s to a state championship in 2010. Was a member of the Under Armour Underclassman D.C. team in 2011. Also played soccer in high school.

Freshman John Everett comes to Vermont from Virginia Beach, Va. and Cape Henry Collegiate High School. As a senior he was named all-conference first team and was a team captain. Was a second team all-conference selection as a sophomore and junior. Won 58.7 percent of his faceoff attempts in high school. Also wrestled and ran cross country in high school.

Freshman Jeff Garinger comes to Vermont from Skillman, N.J. and Montgomery High School. As a midfielder he scored 40 goals and handed out 27 assists. Also played hockey in high school, where he was all-state as a senior and graduated as the school’s all-time leading scorer.

Junior Graham Horvath comes to Vermont from Essex Fells, N.J. and Seton Hall Prep. Played for two years at Hofstra before transferring to Vermont. Appeared in six games at Hofstra as a freshman and one as a sophomore. Holds the Seton Hall Prep school records for both points and goals scored. Finished his high school career with 131 goals, including 51 in 2010 to set a school single-season record. Led Seton Hall to two Essex County Championships and was named All-Essex County three times. Was also an All Fitch-Pitt Conference selection three times and all-state as a senior.

Junior AJ Leary comes to Vermont from Guilford, Conn. and Guilford High School. Also played for two seasons at Hofstra. Appeared in 11 games and had an assist as a sophomore at Hofstra and played in five games as a freshman. In high school he was a two-time All-Connecticut Class M selection. Two-time All-Area selection by the New Haven Register and two-time All-SSC league pick. Holds the Guilford school records for most career goals (167) and points (268). Captain and team most valuable player after scoring 61 goals and handing out 31 assists as a senior in 2009. Also played football in high school.

Freshman Henry Linde-Elmhirst comes to Vermont from Keene, Ontario and The Hill Academy. Also played lacrosse for the Peterborough Junior Lakers. Was a member of the hockey and football teams in high school.

Freshman Blake Pendleton comes to Vermont from Wayland, Mass. and Bridgeton Academy. Attended the Stratton Mountain School before Bridgeton, where he was the leading scorer and team MVP. Also led Bridgeton in scoring in his one season there. Played soccer in high school as well.

Freshman Nick Price comes to Vermont from Andover, Mass. and Brewster Academy. Attended Andover High School before going to Brewster, where he was a three-time MVC First Team All-Star and Boston Globe All-Star. Named a league all-star following his senior year. Also played football in high school.

Freshman Sean Riley comes to Vermont from Ridgefield, Conn. and Ridgefield High School. Named second team all-state following his senior year when he scored 60 goals to go with 12 assists. Netted 47 tallies and six assists during his junior season.

Freshman Justin Rosenberg comes to Vermont from Boyds, Md. and St. John’s College High School. As a senior he was named First Team All-WCAC and Second Team All-Met. During his junior year he was Second Team All-WCAC and an All-Met Honorable Mention selection.

Freshman Sam Tweed comes to Vermont from Falmouth, Maine and Middlesex High School. Named All-ISL in each of his last two seasons. Was a US Lacrosse All-American and named the NEPS Prep and Private School Player of the Year following his senior year. Named Bishop’s Top Defender in the end of the season rankings. Also played hockey and football in high school.

Freshman Chase Williams comes to Vermont from Weston, Mass. and the Rivers School. Was named All-ISL following his senior year. Named Bishop’s ninth-ranked defender in the end of the season rankings. Team captain as a senior and won the school’s hustle award in each of his last two seasons. Also played soccer and hockey in high school.

Sophomore Tim Yager comes to Vermont from Summit, N.J. and Summit High School. Spent one season at St. John’s before transferring to Vermont. In high school he was named second team all-state, first team all-county and Second Team All-Fitch-Pitt Division in 2011. Scored 69 goals and dished out 55 assists for his career. Won three Group 1 State Championships, three Union County Championships and two New Jersey Tournament of Champions. Contributed to a 68-game winning streak spanning three seasons. Finished high school with a 68-2 record on varsity. Also played hockey, soccer and football in high school.
