Saint Joseph’s men’s lacrosse head coach Taylor Wray has announced the Hawks’ 16-game schedule for the 2013 season. The Hawks, who won their first-ever victory against
a Colonial Athletic Association opponent as a member of the conference last season, will play six CAA contests in 2013.

“We are excited about the way our 2013 schedule lays out,” said Wray in second season as head coach. “It’s a really competitive schedule and we look forward to the challenges it will present.”

The highlight of the schedule will be on saturday, April 6 when the Hawks play Hofstra in a special charity event in the HEADstrong Foundation’s inqugural Relentless Cup at Ridley High. The 7 p.m. CAA game will cap a full-day event that also features youth teams from three states and varsity/JV games between the Ridley and Avon Grove boys’ and girls’ teams.

Overall, the schedule presents the Hawks with the opportunity to play four opponents ranked in the nation’s top 25.

Saint Joseph’s will kick off the 2013 on the road, traveling to Bethlehem, Pa. on February 9 to play nationally-ranked Lehigh in the season opener before facing off against High Point down in Woodbury Forrest, Va., on February 16. Wray was formerly Lehigh’s top assistant.

“With a young team, I felt it was important to get our guys as much experience as possible and to play as many games as we could,” said Wray. “We kick off competition with our Crimson-Gray scrimmage on February 2 and it’s full speed ahead from that point forward.”

The Hawks will open the home portion of the 2013 schedule with three of their next four games to be played at Finnesey Field. Philadelphia play will commence on Saturday, February 23 when SJU hosts VMI at 1:00 p.m. Three days later, the Hawks will travel to cross-city rival Penn before returning home for back-to-back contests to kick off the month of March.

Saint Joseph’s will play seven games in March with four on Finnesey Field and three on the road. The Hawks will start off the month of March with a pair of home games as they host Wagner on Saturday, March 2, at 2:00 p.m. and Mercer on Wednesday, March 6, at 4:00 p.m. After traveling to Providence, R.I. to compete against Brown on March 9, the squad will return home to host Marquette in its third-to-last non-conference game of the season and final non-conference game before a stretch of CAA contests on March 16 at 1:00 p.m.

The Hawks begin their CAA schedule with two road games on March 23 and 26 against two nationally-ranked opponents in Penn State and Drexel, respectively, before returning home for a three-game conference homestand that will see Saint Joseph’s host CAA opponents for three onsecutive Saturdays. The Crimson and Gray will welcome CAA Champion and NCAA hampionship participant Massachusetts and Delaware to Hawk Hill on March 30 and April 13, espectively, for 1:00 p.m. games.

The squad will put conference play on hold with a pair of non-conference contests against Michigan, at Michigan’s Big House, on April 20 and Marist, in the regular-season home finale, on April 23 at 4:00 p.m.

The Hawks will wrap up the regular season with a road game against CAA opponent Towson on April 27.
