Men’s lacrosse: Chestnut Hill College earns 3 OT thriller over Mercy in opener

Junior midfielder Mike Duddy scored an unassisted game-winner a little more than a minute into the third overtime period as visiting Chestnut Hill College gained a brilliant 7-6 win over No. 9 Mercy Saturday in a Division II East Coast Conference opener.

Duddy, Craig Owen (Haverford School) and Mike Melnychenko scored two goals each for the Griffins (1-0).

Junior goalkeeper Dakota Maurer earned the win with 10 saves. Kevin Sonderschafer (Central Bucks South) had a key assist on Melnychenko’s game-tying goal late in regulation.

Duddy added five ground balls and Shane Morlock added a goal for Chestnut Hill.
