Episcopal Academy rising junior face-off specialist-midfielder Matt Ernst has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Lehigh University.
Matt Ernst log:
High School: Episcopal Academy
Graduation Year: 2014
Position: FO specialist/Midfield
College Choice: Lehigh University
Club Affiliation: Duke’s L.C., Old School 2014
Lacrosse Honors: Philly Showcase Camp-Fab 40 All Star; Overall MVP of Duke’s 2 at Champ Camp; Lehigh Valley Showcase All Star; Varsity Player on Episcopal Academy Inter-Ac Invitational Championship Team
Intended Major: Business and or Economics
Why did I pick Lehigh? “Above all, it was Lehigh’s great academic reputation that drew me to the school, but also I really enjoyed being on campus when I was up there. The players that I met were a great group of guys and Coach (Kevin) Cassese is a very down to earth and approachable guy, as were the rest of his staff. Lehigh has a great lacrosse program, and I am really excited to be a part of it.”
2013 Outlook for HS team: “Despite graduating 12 seniors who were all major contributors on the team, I think that with the talent that we have in our returning starters, combined with a determined and hardworking underclass, we will be able to match the success that was displayed during our 2012 season.”
Other comments: “First, I would like to thank my family and for their continued support throughout the process. The Philadelphia area is one of the best lacrosse communities in the country, and I have been fortunate to have many great coaches along the way. I would like to thank Mike Dolente and John Bodnar (face-off coaches from Duke’s and Episcopal) for helping me develop my skills as a face-off specialist. I would also like to Thank Ebe Helm, Joe Vetrone, Jason Christmas and the rest of the Duke’s Lacrosse Club coaching staff for giving me some great opportunities this summer. A huge thanks to Coach (Andy) Hayes and the Episcopal Academy Lacrosse coaching staff for pushing me to exceed expectations. Last, but not least, I would like to thank Coaches Todd MacFarlane, John Nostrant and Dave Metzbower from Old School Lacrosse for their teaching and recruiting support this summer.”
