Girls’ lacrosse: Shipley School celebrates Senior Day with win; Friends Schools League opens playoffs Monday

The Shipley School girls’ lacrosse team (13-6, 5-2 FSL) finished its Friends Schools League season Tuesday by defeating Abington Friends School, 18-4 on Senior Day.

Shipley seniors honored last week included: Back Row- Alison Henry, Teddy Chase, Elizabeth Wilcox, Avery Safford, Caroline Anapol, Lena Costalas; Front Row- Lauren Scutt, Sophie Cummins, Alayna Harris, Katie Leyden

Thirteen different girls contributed to the attack for the Gators, including all eight seniors. Seniors Sophie Cummins, Caroline Anapol and Katie Leyden each had two goals, Cummins added an assist and Anapol added three assists. Seniors Avery Safford, Teddy Chase, Alayna Harris, Elizabeth Wilcox and Lauren Scutt each added a goal, Safford also contributed three assists.

Junior Sophie Katz and freshman Rachel Shapiro each had two goals, Katz also dished out six assists. Junior Carlie Ladda and freshman Sophie Pilkington each had one goal and one assist and junior Hannah Cutler added one to round out the scoring for the Gators.

Freshman Alli Kothari had two saves in the victory.

The seniors that were honored for their contributions to the lacrosse program over the past few years included; Caroline Anapol, Teddy Chase, Sophie Cummins, Alayna Harris, Katie Leyden, Avery Safford, Lauren Scutt and Elizabeth Wilcox as well as managers Alison Henry and Lena Costalas.

Friends Schools League playoffs
No. 1 Germantown Friends hosts No. 4 Moorestown Friends, 4 p.m.
No. 2 Friends’ Central hosts No. 3 Shipley School, 4 p.m.

Friday, May 18, 4 p.m. at higher seed
