Sparked by goalie Hank Altschuler (Lower Merion), Israel improved to 2-0 in the European Lacrosse Championship, defeating No. 27 France, 13-4, on a rain-soaked field at Amsterdam Bos in the Netherlands today.
The blue and white dominated from the start, leading 5-0 after the first quarter, 10-0 at halftime and 13-0 after three quarters. The French rallied in the fourth quarter but were unable to put a dent in Israel’s lead.
Altschuler (4 saves, 0 goals against) and Ben Levine (5 saves, 4 goals against) split time in goal. Altschuler was credited the win.
Ben Bretter led Israel with three goals, while Richard Cheifitz, Mike Pfeffer and Jesse Kane each scored twice. Elan Daisudov, Alex Jacobs, Matt Spielman and Sam Hyman added singles.
Labbe Francois scored twice for France, while Leclercq-Martin Brady and Rodricks Nicolas added singles.
Israel is now 5-2 overall, including exhibition play. They meet No. 24 Norway on Sunday.
