Jake Scott scored five times as Conestoga continued its dominant run in the District 1 boys’ lacrosse tournament on Tuesday by defeating Great Valley, 12-6, in the semifinals at Radnor High.

The top-seeded Pioneers (18-3) advance to the District 1 championship game Thursday against Garnet Valley at Radnor at 8 p.m.

Great Valley (14-8) will meet Downingtown West in the third-place game Thursday at Radnor at 5:45 p.m. All four teams will advance to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) tournament.

Conestoga will be aiming to win its fourth straight District 1 crown. No otherteam has won the title.

“It’s great, we did it last year and we’re really excited for Thursday night,” said Scott. “We’re going to get pumped up and we’re going to be ready to go.

“We just have to focus on getting better tomorrow at practice and getting better every day. And I think we’ll be fine if we work together as a team, play together and keep working hard.”

Conestoga took an early lead thanks to two opening goals from Tyler Brooke, followed closely by a goal from Connor Frisina off an assist from Brooke. Frisina had two goals and two assists.

The Patriots found themselves down, 6-1, at the end of the first quarter. Conestoga never trailed in the game.

The Great Valley defense, which had been strong in recent game, could not hold off Conestoga’s offensive weapons. Peter Hayes had seven saves for Great Valley.

Bradlee Lord scored two goals and had one assist. Jordan Klunder scored one goal and Zach Paro had one assist.

“We’re just coming out strong every game and our mentality is going to be the same all year: come out strong and finish strong,” said Lord.

It was the Conestoga defense that came up big in the second half by holding Great Valley scoreless in the third quarter and allowing just two goals in the final minutes of the game.

Conestoga goalies Brody Shea and Robbie Zonino, who started the first and seconds halves, respectively, combined for five saves.

Greg Merrill led Great Valley with three goals. Timmy Lamb, Noah Joseph and Mack Hasz each scored once. Lamb and Jack Waite had the Patriots’ assists.
