Delaware boys’ lacrosse state roundup: Quarterfinal field is set

Below are recaps of first-round games Wednesday in the Delaware state boys’ lacrosse tournament.

Wilmington Friends 11, Dover High 4
The Quakers of Wilmington Friends at 11-5 behind the 4 goal performance of Sean Kilpatrick and Sam Carney, son of Delaware Congressman John Carney 3 goals by Ben Hanson defeated the 11th seed Senators of Dover High by a 13-4 score. In the nets for Dover at 11-5, Mackenzie Ware recorded 14 saves while for Friends, Max Davis recorded 9 saves. The Quakers will take on Salesianum at Baynard Stadium at 2:00 pm.

Caesar Rodney 14, Appoquimink 6
4 goals by Gehrig Johnson, 3 by David Schmidt and Hunter Schaefer paced the top seed Riders of Caesar Rodney at 15-1 to a 14-6 win over the Jaguars of Appoquimink.

St. Mark’s 11, Delaware Military Academy 5
3 goals by Joseph Gianneras and Chris Donnelly, 2 by Rhett Schweizer, James Magnani, Michael Walsh paced the 5th seed Spartans of St. Marks at 11-5 to a 13-11 win over the 12 seed Delaware Military Academy Seahawks at 11-5. DMA was led by Chris Higgins and teammate Derek Daniels each led with 4 goals. St. Marks will be at Archmere; time to be determined.

Cape Henlopen 16, AI DuPont 5
4 goals by Matthew Kane and John Benson, 3 by Blake Mann and 2 by Sammy Mohr paced the 7th seed Vikings of Cape Henlopen at 11-5 to a 16-5 win over the 10th seed and 11-5 Tigers of Al DuPont. For AI, 2 goals each by Alec Shannon and John Condron. Grant Gillian recorded 10 saves for the Vikings of Cape Henlopen and for AI, Andrew Fox recorded 14 saves. Cape will be at Tower Hill; time to be determined.
