John Christmas has announced he will be holding the inaugural Phenom Lacrosse 200 recruiting showcase, featuring the top 200 rising freshmen June 16-17 at Shipley School, PA.

The invite-only event will feature players from Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland, New York and Connecticut competing in two days of games with top-rated coaches. The event will serve as an avenue for players to be recommended to Jake Reed’s Blue Chip camps.

Christmas is a former Lower Merion and Virginia standout who played for the Philadelphia Wings and coached with the Duke’s Lacrosse Club while also co-founding the LEAPS Lacrosse program. He recently moved to San Francisco where he coaches and trains players but also is focused on building and growing Encore, a lifestyle brand that supports the growth of lacrosse.

He said he wanted to bring a top showcase to Philly to fill a void with the new trends in recruiting.

About 100 spots have been filled, but 100 more are needed. Players will be able to submit videos to Christmas’ website (

“I reached out to Jake Reed last summer about doing a rising 9th grade showcase in the Philly area and he was very receptive,” Christmas said. “I feel like there should be more showcase events in Pennsylvania – so many of them are in Maryland.”

Christmas said college coaches are recruiting at a younger age. This year well over 50 sophomores have already committed to Division I school. Players will be expected to compete from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on both days.

“I think that recruiting obviously is moving to the younger ages,” Christmas said. “I have had moms ask me to recommend their son to Jake Reed, but I can’t do that if I have not seen them play.

Participants will be given Encore Brand gear and games will be filmed and loaded on
