With this caliber of game at hand, there was big crowd, including a couple colleges represented, one being Johns Hopkins University. The teams did not disappoint as the host Dons battled back from a 6-4 deficit and earned an 8-6 win to improve to 3-0 and spoil the Friars’ opener.

Senior Deemer Class played the role of dish-master, finishing with four assists, one coming on the tying goal by Alex Dauses, who made it 6-6 with 9:36 left in the game.

The Dons kept the momentum with a man up situation due to a cross checking penalty on the Friars. This led to the game-winning goal by T.J. Neubauer with 6:38 left on the clock. Conor Dalton scored the final goal with just over five minutes left to play and Loyola Blakefield played possession the rest of the way.

Junior Devin McNamara scored twice for the Dons in the first half when they took a 4-2 lead.

Senior Jake Glancy and junior Thomas O’Connor both had two goals for the Friars, who stormed back to seize a 6-4 lead in the third period. Sophomore Conor Glancy had two assists and P.J. Finley and Graeme Weaver each scored once.

Malvern Prep coach David Metzbower thought his team made too many turnovers. He noted that the fourth-period cross check was crucial.

“That game got away from us,” he said.

The Dons – who now gear for a home game Tuesday vs. Haverford school – were thrilled with the comeback.

“It was great to see us battle back like that,” senior attackman O’Connor said.

“There were definitely a few things we could have done better, but it was a good win,” added Loyola Blakefield coach Jack Crawford.
