The Pioneers finished undefeated in the league (11-0) for the second consecutive season and closed their regular season at 15-3. Ridley finished second in the league with a 10-1 mark.

“My teammate, Pierre Atkinson, who I’ve played lacrosse with since youth leagues, set me up for the win,” said Scott.

Conestoga, the two-time defending state champion, has won 29 straight Central League games.

“It’s a special accomplishment for these kids and for the program,” said Conestoga coach Brian Samson. “I am really happy and proud of them.

“They were really tested tonight. That unblemished record was on the line in the league and they stayed with it.”

Garnet Valley used a matchup zone and some other sets to focus on Bradlee Lord and Tyler Brooke.

“Garnet Valley played a heck of a game and at times they frustrated our guys,” said Samson. “It’s good to see the two young guys – Pierre and Jake – put the play together to win it.

Garnet Valley’s Vail Urso scored to tie the game with 3:53 in regulation.

Scott and Connor Frisina each scored twice for the Pioneers. Another sophomore, Alex Mezey, also scored.

Goalie Robbie Zonino made two standout stops on close-in shots for the Pioneers in overtime and had nine saves overall.

Scott said the Pioneers bounced back well from three close non-league losses to top foes after earning the nation’s No. 1 rankings early in the year. Now, the Pioneers will be seeded No. 1 or No. 2 as they shoot for their fourth fourth straight District 1 championship.

“They were great teams that we lost to and we had to forget about our losses,” he said. “Our main goal is to think about our next opponent and that’s all we have to focus on.”

Garnet Valley is 13-4 overall and 8-3 in the league.
