Philadelphia Wings Captain Brodie Merrill made a surprise lunchtime visit last week to 14-year-old cancer survivor, Jason Garstkiewicz, an eighth-grader at Haddonfield Middle School (N.J.).

Brodie Merrill visits a cancer survivor at Haddonfield Middle School

Garstkiewicz, an avid lacrosse player, recently underwent a procedure to amputate his leg in order to remove a cancerous tumor. Despite undergoing this procedure less than a year ago, the middle-schooler continues to be very active in several sports activities, including lacrosse.

Garstkiewicz’s story hit close to home for Merrill, whose best friend and former teammate has been diagnosed with a similar form of cancer and remains determined to continue playing lacrosse in spite of obstacles his illness has caused.

The Philadelphia Wings will open the 2013 season at home against the Buffalo Bandits at Wells Fargo Center on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 7 p.m. Call 215-389-WING (9464) or visit WingsLAX.com to order tickets for the upcoming Wings Season.
