The Garnet Valley Jags rallied from a 6-0 deficit and stunned host Downingtown West today in the Varsity championship game of the 9th annual Brian Houshower Memorial Tournament.
Garnet Valley scored its first goal late in the first half and then got two quick tallies to open the second half after Mike Lanham face-off victories. After another goal, the Jags drew within 6-5 on a goal by Brok D’Annunzio with eight minutes to play.
Andrew Cahall tied the game with less than a minute to play for the Jags and then Robert Raucci collected the game-winner with 7 seconds left to play.
Mitchell Rose was a standout in goal for Garnet Valley, which finished undefeated. Lanham was a key at the face-off X and Urso was a dominant offensive force.
Downingtown West also went undefeated in pool play.
Episcopal Academy edged Downingtown West by the same 7-6 score to win the JV championship.
Also competing in the Varsity Division were Downingtown East, Archbishop Wood, North Penn, the
Nazareth Clippers and Conestoga 2015.
The Junior Varsity Division also featured Downingtown East, Lampeter-Strasburg, the Lehigh Valley Steel and the Garnet Valley Jags.
The tournament honors the memory of the former Downingtown High student-athlete, a budding lax player who passed away as a result of a car accident in 2003.
