Franklin & Marshall’s head lacrosse coach Mike Faith announced Christina Fried and Nora McGurkin (Penn Charter, La Salle University) as the Diplomats’ assistant coaches.

“I feel confident that Christina and Nora will provide leadership and direction to create a successful, positive environment for the program and the student-athletes,” said Faith.

McGurkin joins the F&M coaching staff after completing her collegiate career at La Salle. An outstanding Division I midfielder who started all four years, she will be working primarily with the midfielders, defenders, and goalies. She will lead the coordination of camp and clinic development and also focus on scouting and film analysis.

“Her fresh perspective will allow us to incorporate new concepts and ideas from the Division I game,” said Faith of McGurkin, who was a co-coach for Team Philly at the Brine National Lacrosse Classic this summer.

Fried brings four years of collegiate coaching experience, most recently at Kutztown University, and will be leading all aspects of recruitment. Her primary focus will be on the development and refinement of the defensive side of the field. In addition to working with the defense, she will oversee the student-athletes’ progress in the classroom.

She enjoyed a sterling four-year playing career for Lock Haven . Fried was a team captain as a senior and a Second Team All-PSAC performer as a junior. She helped the Lady Eagles to a 62-14 overall record during her four years, including a pair of NCAA Tournament semifinals, three PSAC Championship appearances and a school-record 17 wins (17-2) during the 2006 season.

Fried was also an active member of the Lock Haven academic community. She was a three-year member of SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee), a member of Alpha Kappa Psi and worked for the LHU Foundation.

She earned her Master’s degree in Business Administration from Frostburg State University in May and graduated from Lock Haven with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in management. She spent the fall semester of her senior year at Lock Haven studying at the Dublin Business School in Dublin, Ireland.

“Christina’s experience coupled with her enthusiasm for the game is a welcome addition to the program,” Faith said. “She will be a valuable asset in both bringing and retaining quality student-athletes to F&M.”

The Diplomats finished last season with a 13-3 mark, including a 7-1 record in Centennial Conference action.
