The 6th Annual Ricky Whelan Dukes Developmental Program, an instructional series that leads to the tryouts for the Duke’s Lacrosse Club. The program – featuring five sessions – is scheduled to begin on Sept. 8th and continue for five Saturdays (Sept. 22 clinic goes from 11 a.m.-1 p.m..). The times are scheduled for 2:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Coach Mark Duncan and the Shipley School Farm Fields will be hosting the clinics.

Walkup registration will start at 1:30 p.m. The Dukes tryouts are tentatively slated for Oct. 14th at Huntingdon Road Fields in Abington, PA. Ricky Whelan was a Dukes alum who died suddenly in his sleep seven years ago. He exemplifies the quality of player and person the Dukes wish to create and associate with. This program is for intermediate to advanced high school players. Advanced 8th grade or 7th graders who wish to attend need to contact Coach Jason Christmas (JOHNJC32XMAS@aol.com).

The clinics will be emphasizing high intensity drills and skill sets to improve players’ reaction time and decision making in unsettled/settled transition pressure situations. Up tempo pace will be encouraged defensively and offensively from 1v1 situations to 2v1 and mandown/manup scenarios all the way up to 6v6 settled sets. These sessions will give players preparation for the Dukes tryouts while improving lacrosse IQ and field sense. To receive a discount, it is encouraged to preregister for the clinics and avoid massive walkup lines at walkup registration.
Preregistration fees ($375 for all 5 sessions or $80 a session for individual session ) can be mailed and must be received before September 7th.
First 100 players will receive either a performance reversible or short provided by ENCOREBRAND. (www.encorebrand.com)
