Registration open for Care for the Cure Lacrosse tourney Nov. 10 at Henderson

September 7, 2012 by Chris Goldberg

Registration is open for the 4th Annual Care for the Cure Lacrosse Tournament set for November 10 at Henderson High.

The tourney, for boys’ and girls’ high school teams, benefits various organizations that help in the fight against blood cancer in the region.

On August 15, 2008, Caroline (Care) Cranston, at 24 years old, was diagnosed with leukemia. In high school, Care played lacrosse for West Chester Henderson and continued her lacrosse career at Duquesne University. The tourney’s mission is to bring the lacrosse community together and to raise awareness and funds for this terrible disease.

The tournament will raise money on behalf of Caroline who lost her life in a battle with AML Leukemia on May 8th 2010. The tournament has donated to the likes of Leukemia Lymphoma Society, Caroline Gallagher Cranston Memorial Fund, HEADstrong Foundation, and the Be the Match Organization.

Care for the Cure has been a feature tournament in the Philadelphia area for the last four years, promoting a family atmosphere with vendors, silent auction items, DJ Smooth and much more. The tournament will once again be held at West Chester Henderson High School which features two turf fields, and 4 other plush grass fields.

Tournament Brackets:
Boys Varsity High School A – Top Bracket will include highly competitive club and varsity programs
Boys Varsity High School B – Junior Varsity, Young club, Freshmen
Girls Varsity High School A – Top Bracket will include highly competitive club and varsity programs
Girls Varsity High School B – Junior Varsity, young club, Freshmen
Each team will play 3 games throughout the day in a round robin format. Games are 50 minutes in length with a 5 minute halftime.

US Lacrosse High School rules will apply to each bracket

During the tourney organizers will once again be raffling off the Official Care for the Cure Headwrapz CPXr (courtesy of Lacrosse International) with a Twitter contest. Follow @Cranstonthirty5 and @Lax_Evo for details the week of the tournament!
