Merrill is a member of ManUp Lacrosse Club, an organization whose mission is to help lacrosse coaches and families in need of assistance through fundraising and service. In the winter Merrill represented ManUp along with coach Jim Schorn as the program presented a letter of appreciation to North Carolina coach Joe Breschi after ManUp donated a $1,000 check to the Michael Breschi Scholarship at Chapel Hill, N.C.

Merrill, who has a 4.0 GPA and has been a member of the Distinguished Honor Roll through his high school career, has been involved in many service projects. He also serves as an assistant coach for the U9 Division for Great Valley Youth Lacrosse, volunteers with the Home of the Sparrow and the West Chester Salvation Army and has participated in mission trips with the Paoli United Methodist Church (to Philadelphia and West Virginia).

Merrill, who became the first Philly rising sophomore to commit to a Division I college last fall, also considered Villanova, North Carolina, Duke and Notre Dame. It must be noted that all student-athletes applying to play sports at Ivy League schools must continue through the admissions process.
