Boys’ youth lacrosse: Freedom 2014 takes Varsity B title at Hogan’s Hershey tourney

The Philadelphia Freedom Lacrosse Club 2014 team took home the Varsity B division title at Hogan’s Hershey over the weekend of July 14-15 in Hershey, PA.

The team went a perfect 5-0 on the weekend beating teams from Virginia, Pennsylvania and Maryland.

Semi-Finals – Freedom 6 – Charlottesville Bolts, VA 1

Championship Game – Freedom 10 – Generals, VA 6

The team was led by the outstanding goaltending of Anthony Wagner (Bishop Shanahan) and Josh Cherry (Downingtown East) who both made some incredible saves throughout the weekend.

Defensively, Freedom only gave up 15 goals for a 3.2 gaa for the tournament. Spencer Urban (Salesianum) anchored the defense and also scored a goal and handed out 2 assists.

Freedom moved the ball well offensively all weekend with a balanced scoring effort throughout the tournament from both the attack and midfield units. Scoring leaders were Ben Farrell (Bishop Shanahan 5g, 2a); Pat Miller (Downingtown East 5g, 5a); Brenden Sturgis (Downingtown East 5g, 4a), Jeremy Solnosky (Bishop Shanahan 4g, 2a) and Brady O’Neil (Kennett 2g, 4a). John Ziesel (West Chester Henderson), Jack Kelly (Bishop Shanahan), Ryan Johns (Bishop Shanahan) and Dylan Kreher (Downingtown West) all chipped in with 3 goals each while midfielders Sean Lynch (Downingtown East), Mike Risser (Downingtown East), and Lucas Iacovino (Downingtown East) all had 2 goals.

The team finished the summer tournament season with 11 wins and 2 losses.
