Men’s recruits: Ursinus announces Class of 2016

Ursinus Men’s Lacrosse welcomes 14 new members in the class of 2016.

Head Coach Jamie Steele said, “We are very excited about this years recruiting class. We believe this is a dynamic and athletic group that has a chance to impact our team immediately. My assistant coaches Gary Mercadante, Dave Page, and Logan Duffie played a large role in bringing this group to Ursinus and we can’t wait to start working with them this Fall.”

Rob Dewey – (Bryn Mawr, PA/Radnor) – Attack
Dewey joins the Bears after a strong 2012 campaign with Radnor. He was awarded the Corrigan Family award and Honorable Mention All Main Line, while posting 18 goals and 7 assists.

Michael Durst – (Fairfax, VA/Oakton) – Midfield
Durst, a two-sport athlete at Oakton, was named the Male Athlete of the Year in 2012. He was also named to the All District Team for the Northern Virginia Concorde District during his senior season.

James Fairchild – (Wayne, PA/Malvern Preparatory School) – Midfield/FO
Fairchild comes to Ursinus after finishing his high school career as a faceoff specialist for Malvern Prep and the HEADstrong Lacrosse Club.

GB Harkins – (Macungie, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) – Defense
Harkins, a two-sport athlete at A.C.C. playing both football and lacrosse, was a starting linebacker on the 2011 State Championship team and All Area Honorable Mention in 2012. On the lacrosse field, Harkins was a 2012 captain and was named a 1st Team All League and 1st Team All Area.

Robert Keers – (Wilton, CT/Wilton) – Defense/LSM
Keers joins the Bears after a 4 year career at Wilton as a football and lacrosse player. On the lacrosse field in 2012, he received 1st Team All FCIAC honors and was named a 1st Team All State defenseman. Keers is also the All Time Leader for receptions and TD receptions in a single season and was 2nd Team All FCIAC for Wilton football in 2012.

Steve Mussoline – (Macungie, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) – Attack
Mussoline was a four-year varsity starter at A.C.C. where he received All LVC Honors in 2011, led the Lehigh Valley Conference in scoring sophomore and junior year, led the Philly region in goals in 2011 (74) and had 109 points overall. As a senior captain, Mussoline led the conference with 86 points and was named 1st Team All Conference and All Area.

Brian Neff – (Ephrata, PA/Ephrata) – Goalie
Neff, a two-time varsity captain, joins the Ursinus Bears after coming off a strong career at Ephrata. A 2012 US Lacrosse All American, Neff led the conference in save percentage, and was named the conference player of the year. In 2011, he was named All Lancaster-Lebanon League 1st Team Goalie, PIAA District III 1st Team Goalie and was Voted Team MVP for Keystone State Games. A strong student off the field, Neff was a member of the National Honors Society and a member of the Athletic Directors All Scholastic Team.

Tucker Noel – (North Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) – Attack

Noel joins the Bears after finishing his career at West Essex as a hockey and lacrosse player. In 2012, he posted 16 goals and 6 assists for 22 points.

Patrick O’Donoghue – (Whitehouse, NJ/Hunterdon Central) – LSM

O’Donoghue, a 2nd Team All Skyland Conference and All State Honorable Mention LSM, finished his senior campaign with 3 goals and 73 groundballs. He was selected to play in the 2012 NJ All Star Game and was named Defensive MVP for Hunterdon Central.

Logan Panaccione – (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) – Attack
Panaccione was a senior captain and was voted Team MVP in 2012. In his senior campaign, he put up 27 goals and 31 assists for 58 points, which included 9 games with three or more points, 5 games with five or more points, and 13 points in three state playoff games.

Andrew Sabia – (Conshohocken, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh) – Goalie
Sabia, a four year varsity starter in net, was 1st Team All-Catholic in 2009, 2nd Team All-Catholic in 2010, and 2nd Team Suburban One American in 2011. In 2012, he was named 1st Team All Conference Suburban One American League.

Adam Spangenberg – (Downingtown, PA/Malvern Prep) – Midfield
Adam, a Top 205 All star in 2011, was sidelined in 2012 by a knee injury, but will return to the field this Fall to join the Ursinus program. Adam was also an honor roll student at Malvern. He will be joining his older brother, Dylan, who is currently a junior on the team.

Collin Sullivan – (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) – Midfield
Sullivan, a senior captain, was named Team MVP, 1st Team All Herald, 1st Team All Risk Conference, 2nd Team All West NJ, and Honorable Mention All State in 2012.

Anthony Torello – (Kennett Square, PA/Kennett) – LSM
Torello joins the Bears after a four year varsity career in both football and lacrosse at Kennett. On the football field, Anthony set records for rushing yards in a game (249), rushing yards in career (1798), all purpose yards in a game (249), all purpose touchdowns in a season (16), all purpose touchdowns in career (28), rushing touchdowns in a season (14), and rushing touchdowns in career (25). He received 1st team all league honors in 2010, 2011, and 2012 as well as being awarded the Mini Maxwell Award. On the lacrosse field, Anthony received honorable mention in 2009, 2nd Team All League in 2010 and 2011, and 1st Team All League LSM in his senior season.
