Vail Shootout roundup: Team HLA, FCA advance in U-19 playoffs; Eldest Statesmen reach Supermasters finals

Philly players continued to help their teams advance toward championships in the 40th Vail Shootout.

Fellowship of Christina Athletes – featuring Haverford School’s Henry Blynn – advanced to the U-19 Championship game with an 11-4 win over Laxachusetts.

FCA was led by strong defensive play from its backline unit of Bobby Duvnjak, Matt Dunn, Evan Connell, Colin Massa, Robby Haus, and Tim Stackpole and goalies Luke Aaron and Tyler Avallone.

FCA will face Team Colorado today at 11:00 am in the championship game at Ford Field in Vail. The game will receive coverage from iHigh.com at http://ihigh.com/vaillacrosse.

In the girls’ U-19 division, Team heather leigh Albert advanced to the semifinals with a 10-0 rout over MN Lakers. Team HLA went up, 8-0, at halftime, as Kelly Cross (Upper Dublin) had a goal and an assist and Maddy Lynch (Springfield-Delco) had a goal and while Katrina Geiger (Haverford High) contributed a goal and four draw controls.

Meanwhile, in men’s Supermasters, the Eldest Statesmen – featuring Tommy Hannum (retired Downingtown West coach) and Gary Martin (former Wing) – coasted into the finals with a 20-6 win over Yellow Dog. The Eldest Statesmen will meet C2C Magic Wands at 12:30 p.m. for the crown.
