BOYDS, Md. – Albie DiPasquale scored with less than 10 seconds to play as Rochester successfully defended its Brine National Lacrosse Classic High School title, beating Washington, D.C. 6-5, today at the Maryland Soccerplex.
Washington had a 3-1 lead at halftime, but Rochester went on a 4-0 run to take 5-3 lead. Washington battled back to tie and set up the dramatic finish.
The Brine NLC featured All-Star teams from 16 regions and attracted dozens of college coaches as 400 of the top underclassmen in the nation competed for a national title. Rochester advances to compete in the Brogden Cup this January against a team from Canada. Rochester is the defending Brogden Cup champion.
DiPasquale had two goals and Trevor Hodgins had a goal and an assist for Rochester. Austin Nadeau, Maximus Maxwell and Bradley Voigt each scored once.
Charlie Horning and Kevin Dougherty had two goals to lead Washington D.C. while Colin Giblin, scored once.
Rochester had advanced to the finals by edging Ohio, 8-7, as Andrew Schoeneck had three goals and an assist and Nicholas Wilcox scored twice. Nadeau and Ben Reeves each added a goal an an assist for the winners while DiPasquale scored once and Maxwell added two assists.
Washington, D.C. reached the title game by downing Maryland, 6-4.
