USA U-19 squad opens with impressive victory over Long Island Stars as it gears for Saturday night’s game vs. Team Philly

Matt Kavanagh (Notre Dame, Chaminade) scored four goals and had one assist and St. Augustine Prep grad Steve Pontrello as the USA U-19 team handily defeated a Long Island All-Star team, 12-4, Saturday night in Uniondale in the first of three exhibition games for the U-19 squad.

Team USA will play the Philadelphia Lacrosse Association All-Stars Saturday night at Radnor High at 7 p.m. in its second exhibition. game. Click here for a story on the rosters for Saturday’s game. Kavanagh’s high school teammate Sean Mahon, currently of Harvard, added two goals.

The Long Island team got two goals from Garden City’s Liam Kennedy.

In addition, Michael Tagliaferri had two goals and Connor Buczek, Ryan Tucker and Joseph Leonard each scored once for Team USA. Brent Armstrong led the team with two assists.
