Sarah Magnone is looking forward to a special homecoming Saturday at United Sports in Downingtown.

The Villa Joseph Marie graduate was one of many college seniors to be selected to play in the prestigious IWLCA 2012 Division North-South All-Star Game.

The event will feature three games, one for each Division, beginning at noon with the Division I contest. In all, 115 senior student-athletes were selected for the North-South games, as part of the Champions’ Cup. The games (Division I at noon, Division II at 1 p.m. and Division III at 2 p.m.) will precede the IWLCA All-American banquet, which will be held at the Radisson Valley Forge in King of Prussia.

Magnone finished the 2012 season as the top scorer (56 goals) for New Haven, which went 13-5 and was ranked among the top 10 in the nation in Division II all season. She closed her career with a whopping 183 goals and made the Academic Dean’s List. She also has Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll and was named to the IWLCA Division II Academic Honor Roll.

“It’s an honor to be selected and really exciting to be playing with the top players in the region,” said Magnone.

Magnone, who was an All-Rookie choice for New Haven’s first NE-10 Conference title team in 2009, credited her success at New Haven to her teammates.

“My teammates and coaches were so supportive and our team always got along so well,” she said. “We were like a family. We had confidence in our team and as a player I think helped me to be successful.”

Magnone also said her academic success was an outcome of playing in a strong program.

“Being on a team and taking classes taught me how to balance my life and my schoolwork,” she said.

Magnone graduated with a degree in graphic art and is searching for a job. A coach with the Select Lacrosse club program with her mother, Stephanie (head coach at Villa Joseph Marie), she will also coach at the All-American Showcase at United Sports.
