Chester County YLA U-15 wins inaugural PLA Boys Youth Lacrosse All-Star Challenge at Kelly Field

The best U-15 boys’ lacrosse players from the Chester County Youth Lacrosse Association (CCLA), The Lehigh Valley Youth Lacrosse Association (LVYLL), and the northern and southern Divisions of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Youth Lacrosse Association met today at Kelly Field in West Chester for the first annual Philadelphia Lacrosse Association (PLA) Boys Youth Lacrosse All Star Challenge.

The event was sponsored by the PLA and is a replacement of the Penn Star teams, which in the past have brought together the best boys lacrosse players from all over Eastern Pennsylvania to compete in the U.S. Lacrosse Youth Festivals. Since the youth festivals no longer exist, the PLA decided to sponsor a U-15 All Star Event and a U-13 All Star event, featuring the best players from CCLA, LYVLL, SEPYLA North and SEPYLA South.

The U-13 All Star Challenge will be held Sunday, also at Kelly Field in West Chester.

“We were thrilled with everything today” said Tim Udinski, Vice President of the PLA. “The weather was perfect, the facility was first class, the stands were overflowing with spectators, and we had the best U-15 boys lacrosse players from all the youth leagues in Eastern Pennsylvania competing for bragging rights in a fun, competitive atmosphere.

“The rerferees even had a great time. The Penn Star concept had run its course and there’s no reason for us to sponsor all star teams to travel to a tournament and win games by 20 goals, like the Penn Star team did last year at a tournament in Raleigh, North Carolina. This is a much better event for the kids.”

The CCLA U-15 All Star team went undefeated, with pool play wins over SEPYLA South, SEPYLA North, and LVYLL. CCLA defeated SEPYLA South 11-7 in the Championship game.

The leading scorer for the champion CCLA team was Fory Smith, who was unstoppable with 11 goals. Also scoring for the CCLA team were Kyle Anderson (6g), Tyler Will (5g), Jack Colt (4g), Alex Wagner (3g), Austin Delgotto (3g), Matt Delazeocci (2g), Jake Martalucci (2g), Colar Setley (2g). Eli Goforth and Bo Coosh each added 1 goal.

Scoring for SEPYLA South were Tyler Kostick (5g), Colby Reeder (4g), Josh Hofner (4g), Luke Desparito (4g), Bobby McClure (3g), Garrett Cannon (2g), Jack Wilson (2g), and Tommy McNamara (2g). Bill Farrell, Alex Bonnett, Ryan Kinnard, and Michael Gerzabeck each added 1 goal.

Leading the way for the SEPYLA North team were Luke Stansfield (5g) and Cody Mazurek (3g). Brian Dulin, Kevin Lacon, and Matt Ho each added 1 goal.

LVYLL were lead in scoring by Adam Goldner (3g) and Colin Mason (2g). Michael Morrissey, Joseph Wolf, Christian Schaeffer, Michael Nelson. and Gabe Kozal each added 1 goal.

The U-13 Boys Lacrosse All Star Challenge will begin at 12:00 p.m. at Kelly Field on Sunday.
