Sara Labrum had four goals and an assist, Bri Irons had three and and assist and Morgan Glassford contributed two goals and four assists as Strath Haven raced to a quick 9-0 lead and coasted past Penn Manor, 19-5, today at Exeter to advance to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) girls’ lacrosse championship game for the second time in four years.

The Panthers will play the Garnet Valley-Radnor winner in the PIAA title game on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at HersheyPark Stadium.

Strath Haven (17-9) advanced to the state finals in 2009 and fell to Radnor that year. This team has reached the championship despite finishing fifth in the Central League and coming into states as the sixth seed from District 1.

“This has happened because of how the girls are playing together,” said Strath Haven coach Rachel Busza, whose team won one-goal games in the first two rounds. “I don’t think this is a shock; it’s an inspiration.

“Our draw ocntrols were right on today. I think got all but five draws the whole game – which is huge. We just continued the momentum since ‘Stoga (an 8-7 win in the quarterfinals) and kept going.”

Penn Manor, the third-place finisher from District 3, fell to 16-9.

Strath Haven has won 13 of 15 games since starting the year at 4-5.

“I have been telling them from Day 1 that was is my dream team,” Busza said. “Even when we went through a losing streak, I kept telling them that and we kept working.

“We work really hard in practice and we have no superstars so all we do is focus focus on making each other better and that’s what they have done.”
