Thursday’s District 1 girls’ wrap: Conestoga edges U. Dublin; Great Valley, Radnor, Harriton, Garnet Valley, Strath Haven win

Meghan McGillis had three goals and two assists and tallied the game-winner with 5:31 to play and Kelly Morrison added two goals and two assists to help host Conestoga dump Upper Dublin, 9-8, today in a second-round game in the District 1 girls’ lacrosse tournament.

The eighth-seeded Pioneers (13-7) advance to the quarterfinals Saturday and will play neighborhood rival Great Valley (No. 1 seed) at West Chester East at 9 a.m. Ninth-seeded Upper Dublin closed at 16-4.

Senior goalie Sarah Priem was a standout and had 11 saves for the Pioneers, including several key stops in the final two minutes when the Cards threatened to tie the game. Megan Cameron added a goal and an assist.

Under Armour All-American Kelly Cross capped a brilliant career for UD with four goals, two assists and 10 draw controls.

Great Valley 20, Villa Maria Academy 13

Ali Karwoski collected seven goals and an assist and Brittany Edwards had four goals for Great Valley, the No. 1 seed.

Catherine Bendinelli led Villa Maria with four goals and two assists.

Radnor 17, Boyertown 8

Natalie Miller collected six goals and four assists and taryn Deck scored four goals for the Red Raiders. Shannon Quinn added three goals and three assists.

Jaime Vincent had two goals and an assist for Boyertown.

Harriton 12, North Penn 7

Caleigh Foust fired in five goals and Jess Schwab added four goals and an assist while Melina very made 15 saves for the Rams.

Rachel Shaw scored three goals for North Penn.

Garnet Valley 16, Springfield-Montco 5

Halley Barnes had six goals and an assist and Haley Warden added four goals and an assist for the second-seeded Jaguars.

Ally Heavens and Ashley Pyle each had three goals and AnnaElise dished off six assists for Garnet Valley.

Strath Haven 10, Council Rock North 9

Morgan Glassford had five goals and an assist as the Panthers advanced to the quarterfinals.

Kara Magley pumped in six goals for CR North.

Springfield-Delco 17, Merion Mercy 6

Alex Poplawski had six goals and two assists to lead the Cougars to the victory.

Hatboro-Horsham 21, Henderson 19

Lizzy Carr had eight goals and three assists while Cortnee Daley added five goals, two assists, six ground balls and 11 draw controls, and Nicole Beck had four goals and two assists for the Hatters.
