Devin Dwyer had three goals and six assists and Garden City (N.Y.) staved off a late Conestoga raly to claim a 12-11 victory today over the No. 1 team in the nation at the Checking for Cancer Lacrosse Invitational at Haverford School.

Garden City (7-0) entered play ranked No. 4 by ESPNHS, No. 5 by Inside Lacrosse and No. 6 by MaxPreps.com. Conestoga (7-1) was No. 1 in all four national polls.

“Our coaches did an unbelievable job preparing us and we executed great,” said Dwyer. “It was getting scary standing at the midfield line praying our defense would (hold them). But I had confidence we could hold them.

“It was an awesome win.”

Conestoga had won three games this year by one goal, but after pulling within 12-11 on two late goals, standout senior attackman Bradlee Lord (three goals) was thwarted with less than a minute to play and the Trojans ran out the clock.

Justin Guterding added three goals and two assists and Liam Kennedy added two goals for Garden City.

Adam Goins had three goals for Conestoga and Connor Frisina added a pair while Tyler Brooke had a goal and an assist.
