Chestnut Hill College’s Mike Duddy and Craig Owen (Haverford School) scored late goals to force a 10-10 tie, but host St. Rose won it when Joe Pompo scored the game-winner with 1:04 to play Wednesday in Division II men’s lacrosse.
St. Rose (4-3) used the home field to its advantage, taking a 3-1 first-quarter lead, before repeating the feat in the second frame for an 8-2 halftime edge. Freshman Kris Miller and sophomore Brett McAuliffe were on the attack for the Golden Knights; McAuliffe scoring three goals and Miller providing two goals and an assist. Chestnut Hill College (6-2) received first half goals from senior attack Kevin Festa, at 6:27 in the first quarter, 2-1, and Owen at 6:24 in the second quarter, 8-2.
At the start of the second half, Owen started the task of bringing the Griffins back into the fray. He scored both of the Griffins third-quarter goals the first off the feed from freshman midfielder Chris Mertens at 14:43, 8-3, and the second at 7:55, 8-4. The Golden Knights added one before the end of the period to carry 9-4 lead heading to the final quarter.
Duddy picked up in the fourth quarter where Owen left off in the third, scoring three consecutive goals, the first from junior midfielder D.J. Klusaritz (Slatington, PA), 9-5, and the second two unassisted to narrow the margin to 9-7 with 10:02 left. Klusaritz then bookended a Golden Knight goal to put the affair at a 10-9 spread with 3:47 to play and with 1:46 to go Duddy made all things equal, 10-10. Unfortunately, the Golden Knights were the dominant party in the face-off circle, 19-of-24 (.792). Freshman midfielder Ryan McFee won 12-of-14 (.857) face-offs and recovered nine ground balls, he did both on the draw that led to Pompo’s game-winner at 1:04, 11-10.
Owen totaled five points with three goals and two assist for the Griffins. He also grabbed three ground balls. Duddy scored four goals while also contributing a ground ball and a caused turnover. On defense, junior defenseman Donald Lynch III (Mullica Hill, NJ) supported junior goalkeeper Dakota Maurer (Lititz, PA) with five ground balls and four caused turnovers. Maurer took the loss (6-2), despite making 13 saves and recovering four ground balls.

Division I
Lafayette 17, San Diego State 14
Addie Godfrey’s goal 16 seconds into the game opened a high-scoring affair, in which Lafayette never trailed, as the Leopards held off San Diego State to improve to 7-5.
Strath Haven grad Ana White (4 g, 3a), who assisted Godfrey’s first score, combined with Godfrey (5g, 2a) for 14 points in Lafayette’s final non-league home game of the season.
Haverford College 18, Muhlenberg 11
Megan Gallagher had four goals for the Fords in the Centennial Conference win.
