Tuesday’s boys’ HS roundup: Conestoga tops Penncrest; Ridley, Radnor, Abington coast

Connor Frisina scored four goals and Mike McGregor added two as host Conestoga earned a 9-2 win over Penncrest today in the Pioneers’ Central League opener and first game since being ranked No. 1 in the state and the country.

Conestoga (2-0), coming off a memorable win over Calvert Hall, is ranked No. 1 by MaxPreps.com and No. 1 in the PA Media Rankings. Both polls came out today. Bradlee Lord and Tyler Brooke each dished two assists and Robbie Zonino made five saves.

Will Manganiello and Bill McDonell scored for the Lions.

Ridley 8, Lower Merion 2

Kyle Bush had two goals and one assist while Jim Gormley and Lou Harrison each had a goal and two assists as the Green Raiders toppled Lower Merion in a Central League opener.

Radnor 17, Marple Newtown 2

Mike Cherry had four goals and one assist and Ben Junior had three goals and one assist to lead the Raiders to the Central League win.

Abington goalie Travis O'Connor made 22 saves in the Ghosts' win over GA

Abington 11, Germantown Academy 4

Travis O’Connor made 22 saves and a defense led by Chris Duffy, Austin Pifani, Scott Spiegel and Gage Gormley was standout for the Ghosts (1-1) in their non-league win.

Shane Dunn scored three goals and Ryan Ambler contributed two goals, two assists and three groundballs for Abington. Brian Gallagher added two goals and an assists and Matt Lomady scored twice.

Connor Crump had a goal and two assists for GA (0-2).

Malvern Prep 14, West Chester east 0

Joe Dunn had three goals and three assists and P.J. Finley won 12 of 12 face-offs as the Friars (1-2) won their first game.

Upper Merion 10, Norristown 5

Trevor Kupecky had two goals and three assists and Troy Minnich made 14 saves to lead the Vikings to the Suburban One American victory.

Springside Chestnut Hill Academy 12, Roman Catholic 1

Tasso Karras poured in six goals and Forrest Rall won 12 of 14 face-offs for SCH in gthe non-league win.
