The girls’ lacrosse season opened Saturday with several games between teams in the Friends Schools and Inter-Ac leagues.

The season begins in earnest Friday with the start of the PIAA campaign. This year Phillylacrosse.com has expanded its coverage to South Jersey and northern Delaware; hence perennial national power Moorestown moving right in as the No. 1 team, slightly ahead of defending PIAA state champion Garnet Valley.

1, Moorestown (22-4) – The Quakers, who won the N.J. state Group III title and reached the finals of the Tournament of Champions last year, open March 31 at home vs. a Philly squad, Strath Haven.

2, Garnet Valley (24-3) - The defending PIAA champions, who lose only one starter, open Saturday at home vs. No. 6 Archbishop Carroll at 4 p.m.

3, Great Valley (21-4) -
The Patriots, PIAA semifinalists last year, open Friday at home vs. Pottstown.

4, Springfield-Delco (21-4) – The Cougars, quad-champs of the Central League last year, open Friday at home vs. Owen J. Roberts.

5, Shawnee (17-5) – The Renegades look to compete with Moorestown for Group III honors in South Jersey.

6, Archbishop Carroll (18-4) – The 11-time defending champions from the Catholic League face a stern test in their opener – at No. 2 Garnet Valley on Saturday.

7, Radnor (14-6) - The quad-champion Red Raiders host last year’s PIAA runner-up, Downingtown East, on Friday.

8, Conestoga (12-7) - The Pioneers open March 27 with a Central League game at Penncrest.

9, Boyertown (19-7) – The eight-time defending PAC-10 champions open Friday at North Penn.
